A Liaison with the University of Sonora

Late last year, the Seawater Foundation granted $50,000 USD to Departmento de Investigaciones Cientificas y Technologicas (DICTUS) of the University of Sonora (Unison). The University’s Dr. Carlos Peña, Director of DICTUS, was then able to match that grant and use the combined amount for work that supported seawater technologies in Sonora. Staff members of DICTUS have been part of our team as we begin this large project in Sonora. Hector Licon and his group in DICTUS have been a valuable example of our teamwork to investigate and evaluate coastal land and deserted farmland along the Sonoran coast.

Their expertise in satellite imagery, data collection and computer manipulation has provided our team, analysis of the land and topography. Their contribution has greatly enhanced our response to the requirements for the World Bank BioCarbon Fund reporting and the United Nations compliance for CMD. Grants like this from the Seawater Foundation to Unison create partnerships that strengthen and speed the success of our effort to solve the pollution problem along the coast while helping the shrimp industry and beginning to address Global Warming at the same time. |
